Why sulfur dioxide emissions decline significantly from coal-fired power plants in China? Evidence from the desulfurated electricity pricing premium program

Zibin Zhang et al.

Summary: The desulfurated electricity pricing premium program (DEPPP) has significantly reduced sulfur dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants in China by providing strong incentives for investment in flue gas desulfurization equipment. However, the cost-effectiveness of DEPPP varies among different coal-fired power plants, and its effectiveness also relies on strengthened environmental regulatory capacities.
