Lithium depletion and angular momentum transport in solar-type stars

T. Dumont et al.

Summary: The study explores the impact of additional transport processes on the evolution of rotating stars, focusing on agreement with observations regarding Li-7 depletion, rotation evolution of solar-type stars, and the solar rotation profile. Penetrative convection is found to be relevant for depletion of Li-7 in pre-main sequence and early main sequence stars, whereas the addition of vertical viscosity enables efficient angular momentum transport between the core and envelope, matching solar rotation profile.

Calibrating core overshooting parameters with two-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations

J. Higl et al.

Summary: The uncertainty of mixed regions around convective zones in stellar evolution is investigated through multi-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations to calibrate an overshooting parameter. Increasing the overshooting parameter beyond a certain value changes the mixing behavior completely, providing limits on the parameter. Diffusive mixing component due to internal gravity waves is identified, suggesting a need for a mass-dependent overshooting description in simulations of less massive stars.

Prandtl number dependence of stellar convection: Flow statistics and convective energy transport

P. J. Kaepylae

Summary: The study found that in stellar convection zones, the ratio of kinematic viscosity to thermal diffusivity is very small and highly sensitive to the Prandtl number, with a decrease in the Prandtl number resulting in stronger downflows. Velocity power spectra show significant changes near the base, while the energy flux is independent of the Prandtl number but increases inversely with it.

Convective core sizes in rotating massive stars: I. Constraints from solar metallicity OB field stars

S. Martinet et al.

Summary: Spectroscopic studies of Galactic O and B stars suggest that the convective core sizes in stars more massive than about 8 solar masses at the end of the main sequence phase may be larger than predicted by stellar models. By combining stellar evolution models with spectroscopic parameters, the study examines the convective core size in massive stars and finds tensions among different methods for stars more massive than 15 solar masses.

Internal mixing of rotating stars inferred from dipole gravity modes

May G. Pedersen et al.

Summary: Observations of 26 rotating stars with masses between 3 and 10 solar masses reveal a wide range of internal mixing levels, with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles showing the best asteroseismic performance. This study provides observational guidance for three-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations of transport processes in the deep interiors of stars, based on gravity modes probing the stars' deep interiors near the convective core. The internal mixing levels in the analyzed stars are unexpectedly varied and are best reproduced with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles.

Multidimensional low-Mach number time-implicit hydrodynamic simulations of convective helium shell burning in a massive star

L. Horst et al.

Summary: The research on realistic parametrization of convection and convective boundary mixing in stellar evolution codes is ongoing. Multidimensional hydrodynamic simulations are used to study convection in stellar interiors and explore the benefits of using a low-Mach hydrodynamic flux solver. The study demonstrates the successful application of the AUSM(+)-up solver to a realistic astrophysical setup, showing promise for compressible simulations of convection in early phases at nominal stellar luminosity.
