A new tension in the cosmological model from primordial deuterium?

Cyril Pitrou et al.

Summary: Recent measurements and analysis indicate the need to update predictions for light element abundance produced during the big-bang nucleosynthesis, highlighting a tension between baryonic density and D/H abundance. This calls for a reevaluation of the status of BBN in the context of precision cosmology.

Improving helium abundance determinations with Leo P as a case study

Erik Aver et al.

Summary: The study improves methodologies to reduce systematic uncertainties in determining the primordial helium abundance in galaxies. By combining observations and data analysis, the uncertainty in the helium abundance of Leo P galaxy is significantly decreased, resulting in an estimated primordial helium mass fraction of Y_p = 0.2453 +/- 0.0034.

The impact of new d(p,γ)3He rates on Big Bang Nucleosynthesis

Tsung-Han Yeh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of new measurements of the d(p, gamma)He-3 cross section on Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN), re-evaluating the thermal rate for the reaction and performing a likelihood analysis combining BBN and CMB data. The results show consistency between BBN theory, deuterium and He-4 observations, and the CMB when using the data-driven approach for reaction rates. Additionally, the new reaction data tightens constraints on the number of relativistic degrees of freedom during BBN.

Primordial Deuterium after LUNA: concordances and error budget

O. Pisanti et al.

Summary: Accurately evaluating nuclear reaction rates and uncertainties is crucial for determining the primordial abundances of light nuclides. Recent measurements of the D(p, gamma)He-3 radiative capture cross section by the LUNA collaboration have improved theoretical predictions for Deuterium production. Analysis of the impact of different processes on Deuterium abundance revealed that the Helium-4 mass fraction significantly affects predictions for baryon density and neutrino parameters in the early universe.

Measurement of the 2H(p, γ)3 He S factor at 265-1094 keV

S. Turkat et al.

Summary: Recent astronomical data have provided precise primordial deuterium abundance and the big bang nucleosynthesis may offer a constraint on the universal baryon to photon ratio. The new measurement of the H-2(p, gamma)(3) He cross-section shows a higher S factor at big bang temperatures, reducing the predicted deuterium abundance.
