Large-scale Vortices in Rapidly Rotating Rayleigh-Benard Convection at Small Prandtl number

Tao Cai

Summary: This study used numerical simulations to investigate the formation of Large-Scale Vortices (LSVs) in the atmospheres of Jupiter and Saturn. The results showed that the conditions for the formation of LSVs include a large vertical Reynolds number and a small Rossby number. Additionally, it was found that heat transfer is more efficient in the anticyclonic region and the aspect ratio affects the critical Rossby number for the emergence of LSVs.
