Exploring the Solar Wind from Its Source on the Corona into the Inner Heliosphere during the First Solar Orbiter-Parker Solar Probe Quadrature

Daniele Telloni et al.

Summary: This letter discusses the first Solar Orbiter (SO)-Parker Solar Probe (PSP) quadrature on January 18, 2021 to investigate the evolution of solar wind from the extended corona to the inner heliosphere. By tracking the same plasma volume observed in the corona with Metis coronagraph on Solar Orbiter to PSP, it allows for the linking of local properties of the solar wind to its coronal source region. The close approach of PSP to the Sun and simultaneous Metis observation of the solar corona provide unprecedented accuracy in inferring the flow-aligned magnetic field and bulk kinetic energy flux density along the coronal current sheet.

First light observations of the solar wind in the outer corona with the Metis coronagraph

M. Romoli et al.

Summary: This study investigates the wind in the solar corona using observations from UVCS-SOHO and Metis on Solar Orbiter, revealing different wind flow velocities in specific regions and identifying the location where slow wind flow is observed. The findings provide insights into the dynamics of the solar corona and the transition between slow and fast wind speeds.
