Urine recirculation prolongs normothermic kidney perfusion via more optimal metabolic homeostasis-a proteomics study

Annemarie Weissenbacher et al.

Summary: The study utilized proteomics analysis to identify molecular differences in human kidneys undergoing normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) with urine recirculation (URC) or urine replacement (UR). The results showed that kidneys with URC had reduced inflammation, attenuated vasoconstriction, and enhanced metabolic activity, which may better protect against ischemia-reperfusion injury in discarded kidneys.
