Luteolin in Lonicera japonica inhibits the proliferation of white spot syndrome virus in the crayfish Procambarus clarkii

Summary: In this study, the efficacy of 12 herbal medicines in inhibiting the proliferation of White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) was evaluated. Lonicera japonica extract was found to have the strongest inhibitory effect, and luteolin (LUT) was identified as the major bioactive compound. LUT showed a strong inhibitory effect on WSSV replication, decreased viral load, and increased the survival rate of WSSV-infected crayfish. It also modulated the expression of immunerelated genes, antioxidants, proinflammatory factors, and apoptosis-related genes.

Effectiveness assessment assessment of plant mixtures against Ichthyophthirius multifiliis in grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella

Summary: The study aimed to screen plants mixture with high antiparasitic efficacy against Ichthyophthirius multifiliis and assess their toxicity to grass carp. Combination 4 containing Cynanchum atratum and Sophora flavescens showed high efficacy in treating grass carp infected with I. multifiliis and had low toxicity potential, making it a candidate for prevention and control of the parasite in grass carp.

Study on the impacts of chemical and green synthesized (Leucas aspera and oxy-cyclodextrin complex) dietary zinc oxide nanoparticles in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the health effects of dietary nanozinc prepared using two methods: traditional chemical and green synthesis. Results showed that green-synthesized ZnO NP feed significantly enhanced antioxidant enzymes and immune response compared to chemically synthesized feed. Comparative histological analysis revealed normal tissue architecture in fish fed with green-synthesized NP-enriched feed and histological alterations in organs of fish fed with chemically synthesized NP feed.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of a combination of Leucas aspera, Oxy-cyclodextrin, and sodium bentonite (LOB) on growth, digestive enzyme activity, innate immune response, haematology, and expression of immune-related genes in Nile tilapia. The results suggest that a dietary inclusion of 0.6 - 0.9 g kg(-1) of LOB is recommended for optimal growth and immune response in Nile tilapia.
