Vigour-related traits and immunity in hybrids of evolutionary divergent cyprinoid species: advantages of hybrid heterosis?

Andrea Simkova et al.

Summary: The study examines the potential physiological and immune aspects of hybrid vigor by comparing different species and their F1 hybrids caught in nature. Significant differences were found in vigor-related, physiological, and immune parameters between the divergent species. Hybrids generally exhibit intermediate traits, but may show similarities to one parental species for certain characteristics, indicating a heterozygote advantage for F1 hybrids.

The N protein of spring viremia of carp virus promotes the ubiquitination and degradation of viperin_sv1 to escape from the fish innate immunity

Yan Gao et al.

Summary: Viperin_sv1, a novel splice variant with stronger antiviral effect than viperin, is degraded by SVCV infection through the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. The degradation can be prevented by mutating viperin_sv1 at Lys201, suggesting a new defense mechanism of SVCV to interfere with the host immune response.
