A global analysis on the systemic effects of antibiotics in cultured fish and their potential human health risk: a review

Samwel Mchele Limbu et al.

Summary: The use of antibiotics in aquaculture can improve fish health by killing pathogenic bacteria, but also causes side effects and potential risks to human health. Antibiotics can compromise fish immunity, leading to cellular damage, while also impacting fish growth and survival rates.

Antibiotics control in aquaculture requires more than antibiotic-free feeds: A tilapia farming case

Min Zhou et al.

Summary: This study in southern China found that sealed-bag feeds for tilapia ponds did not contain tetracyclines but still had antibiotics and other compounds, while opened-bag feeds had added antibiotics. Sediments in the ponds showed high levels of salicylic acid and various pharmaceutical residues, including progesterone. The findings suggest that additional regulatory actions may be needed to control antibiotic abuse in aquaculture.

Metabolism and Metabolic Disorders and the Microbiome: The Intestinal Microbiota Associated With Obesity, Lipid Metabolism, and Metabolic Health-Pathophysiology and Therapeutic Strategies

Judith Aron-Wisnewsky et al.

Summary: Studying the changes in the intestinal microbiome and their relationship with obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic diseases has provided insights into the mechanisms by which alterations in the microbiome contribute to these conditions. Recent research has focused on the effects of the microbiome on lipid metabolism and the development of strategies to modify the microbiome to reverse metabolic alterations. These approaches have shown promise in mouse models of obesity and metabolic disorders and hold potential for translating to human applications to improve metabolic health.

MHC II-PI3K/Akt/mTOR Signaling Pathway Regulates Intestinal Immune Response Induced by Soy Glycinin in Hybrid Grouper: Protective Effects of Sodium Butyrate

Bin Yin et al.

Summary: Soy glycinin (11S) plays a role in immune regulation, with sodium butyrate (SB) as an additive to alleviate inflammation caused by 11S. Different doses of 11S led to varied serum and DI immune responses in hybrid groupers, impacting their growth performance. SB effectively enhanced serum immunity and alleviated intestinal inflammation induced by high doses of 11S.

Farnesoid X receptor is an effective target for modulating lipid accumulation in grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idella

Jing-jing Tian et al.

Summary: This study reveals that FXR tends to play a negative regulatory role in lipid accumulation in grass carp and is a potential target for regulating lipid accumulation. Gut microbiota modulation of FXR can impact hepatopancreas fat content, while antibiotic mixture can weaken FXR signaling pathway, resulting in lipid accumulation.
