Proving a Paradigm in Methanol Steam Reforming: Catalytically Highly Selective InxPdy/In2O3 Interfaces

Nicolas Koewitsch et al.

Summary: Methanol steam reforming produces clean hydrogen for fuel cell applications, with high CO2 selectivity enabled by the dynamic equilibrium between intermetallic and oxidic species. The active participation of chemically bound oxygen in the catalyst leads to excellent selectivity towards CO2. This is achieved through a Mars-van Krevelen mechanism involving selectivity-decisive redox centers.
