Highly efficient photosynthesis of hydrogen peroxide in ambient conditions

Yu-Xin Ye et al.

Summary: Highly efficient photo-catalytic production of H2O2 in ambient conditions has been achieved using a Z-scheme heterojunction, outperforming almost all reported photocatalysts. By improving the photoresponse of the oxidation semiconductor under visible light, Z-scheme electron transfer is realized, and it is possible to convert type II electron transfer pathway to Z-scheme pathway by tuning the excitation wavelengths, demonstrating a feasible strategy for developing efficient Z-scheme photocatalysts.

A residue-free approach to water disinfection using catalytic in situ generation of reactive oxygen species

Thomas Richards et al.

Summary: A new study shows that reactive oxygen species formed over a AuPd catalyst during the synthesis of hydrogen peroxide are more effective in eliminating bacteria and viruses compared to preformed hydrogen peroxide and chlorination. This approach could potentially serve as an alternative method for water disinfection in communities lacking access to traditional means of water remediation.
