Local damage identification of high-strength circular concrete-filled steel tubes under low cycle fatigue

Yongtao Bai et al.

Summary: This study investigates the low cycle fatigue-induced damages of high-strength circular concrete-filled steel tubular beam-columns under nonstationary loading history. The experimental results show that thin-walled steel tubes with a large D/t ratio can lead to local buckling and premature fractures. A new damage detection technique using polymer optical fiber sensors was developed to identify this complex failure mode.

Laser Shock Peening of SiCp/2009Al Composites: Microstructural Evolution, Residual Stress and Fatigue Behavior

Rujian Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, laser shock peening (LSP) was used to improve the microhardness and introduce compressive residual stresses in SiC particle reinforced aluminum alloy. The fatigue lives of the specimens were significantly increased after LSP treatment, demonstrating the potential for enhancing the performance of metal matrix composites.

Post- fi re mechanical properties of Q620 high-strength steel with different cooling methods

Xuhong Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the post-fire mechanical properties of Q620 HSS exposed to elevated temperatures and cooled with different methods through experiments. The results show that the exposed temperature and cooling method have significant effects on the post-fire mechanical properties, leading to the proposal of predictive equations to quantify these effects.
