High-speed plasma treatment of polyethylene terephthalate films using ultrasound assisted dielectric barrier discharge

Cheng Fang et al.

Summary: The study successfully improved the wettability of PET films by using an air-to-air type atmospheric pressure DBD plasma in helium with ultrasonic irradiation, showing significant effects even at high treatment speeds. This research opens up new possibilities for high-speed plasma treatment of PET films by embedding pneumatic generators into existing commercial machines.

Factors influencing the antimicrobial efficacy of Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) Atmospheric Cold Plasma (ACP) in food processing applications

Ehsan Feizollahi et al.

Summary: Atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) is an emerging technology in the food industry with great potential for improving food safety and extending shelf life. Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is a popular method for generating ACP and has proven successful in microbial decontamination of foods. The antimicrobial efficacy of DBD ACP is influenced by various factors, making it important to critically review the impact of process, product, and microbiological factors.

Tube-Based DBD Plasma Treatment for Improving the Performance of the Slippery Coating Layers on Medical Catheters

Chun-Mao Wen et al.

Summary: This study developed a tube-based DBD plasma treatment for improving the performance of slippery coating layers on medical catheters. Results show that the contact angles of catheter tubes are significantly reduced after plasma treatment, and the hydrophilicity of the treated surface maintains 57% for more than 30 min. Catheters with plasma treatment exhibit lower kinetic friction force, indicating lower friction during medical insertion operations.

Polymethylmethacrylate wettability change spatially correlates with self-organized streamer microdischarge patterns in dielectric barrier discharge plasmas

Oleksandr Polonskyi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the creation of multifunctional polymer surfaces with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic functionality using self-organized plasma streamer microdischarges in atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharges. The gas atmosphere was found to significantly influence the streamer density, stability of patterns, and lateral contrast of physicochemical property changes induced by plasma across the surface. Overall, self-organized streamers in DBD plasmas could be utilized for scalable and localized modification of surfaces.

Study of the Influence of the Different Parameters of the Atmospheric DBD Treatment on the Surface Roughness and the Electric Potential Distribution Generated After the Tribocharging of Polypropylene

Omar Tilmatine et al.

Summary: This study utilized DBD technology to treat polypropylene samples and found that factors such as air gap distance, treatment time, and DBD cell configuration had significant effects on the roughness and triboelectric behavior of the samples. The electric potential of the treated samples was higher and more evenly distributed over the surface.

Hierarchical colloid-based lithography for wettability tuning of semiconductor surfaces

Pavel Shapturenka et al.

Summary: The research utilized hierarchical colloid-based lithography and two-step plasma etching to tune the wettability landscape of Si and GaN surfaces, achieving a transition from hydrophilic to superhydrophobic states. By fine-tuning plasma processing conditions, the surface hydrophobicity was increased, leading to a highly repellent lotus leaf effect. The study demonstrated the controllable wetting behavior in multiple semiconductor systems using colloidal-based nano- and micro-patterning techniques.
