Resistivity Size Effect in Epitaxial Rh(001) and Rh(111) Layers

Atharv Jog et al.

Summary: Rh(001) layers show increasing resistivity with decreasing thickness, in agreement with classical models, while Rh(111) layers exhibit epitaxial microstructure with limited resistivity contribution from grain boundaries. Air exposure causes minimal change in resistivity, indicating potential for Rh as an alternative metal for narrow interconnects.

ADSORPTION-INDUCED INCREASING SPECULARITY OF CONDUCTION ELECTRONS' SURFACE SCATTERING

Sergii Sologub et al.

Summary: This study reviews the increasing specularity of surface scattering of conduction electrons on W(011), Mo(011), and W(001) surfaces after covering with well-ordered (sub)monolayers of adsorbed hydrogen or deuterium. It is found that the specularity of surface scattering significantly increases after the formation of well-ordered structures, such as (1x1)-H and (2x2)-2H, and the changes in magnetoresistance are consistent with the transformation of Fermi contours of surface electronic states obtained in DFT calculations.

Materials for interconnects

Summary: As interconnect wires shrink in size, their electrical resistance increases, leading to signal delay and higher energy consumption. Research into new materials systems and processing methods is needed to address this size effect and produce narrow high-conductivity lines.
