Physical, optical and gamma radiation shielding competence of newly boro-tellurite based glasses: TeO2-B2O3-ZnO-Li2O3-Bi2O3

M. I. Sayyed et al.

Summary: In this study, a traditional melt quenching method was used to synthesize a series of boron tellurite glass samples, with optical properties such as refractive index, molar polarizability, and static dielectric constant calculated based on absorption measurements of the samples. The addition of TeO2 was found to enhance the shielding properties of the glass systems, with the sample containing 80 mol% TeO2 showing the highest attenuation among the samples.

Synthesis and study of structural, optical and radiation-protective peculiarities of MTiO3 (M = Ba, Sr) metatitanate ceramics mixed with SnO2 oxide

E. Hannachi et al.

Summary: A series of novel metatitanate ceramics mixed with SnO2 were successfully prepared through the solid-state reaction route, showing different crystal structures and lattice parameters. Optical properties analysis revealed that all ceramics had optical band gap E-g values in the range of 3.0-3.3 eV, while radiation shielding results indicated that the ceramics were good attenuators at low energies.

The potential use of boron containing resources for protection against nuclear radiation

Mengge Dong et al.

Summary: The study examines the shielding performance of boron-containing natural materials in Liaoning Province, China, against neutron and gamma radiation, finding that boron content and material density have a positive correlation with shielding ability. Composites prepared with boron resources and epoxy resin show excellent neutron shielding but poor performance against gamma rays.

Study on the addition of SiO2 nanowires to BaTiO3: Structure, morphology, electrical and dielectric properties

Y. Slimani et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the addition of SiO2 nanowires affects the properties of BaTiO3, leading to changes in the microstructure of the composites and the detection of Ba2TiSi2O8 with increasing SiO2 content. Additionally, a slight increase in the E-g value was observed in the composite materials compared to pure BaTiO3.

Preparation and characterization of high-Tc (YBa2Cu3O7-δ)1-x/(CNTs)x superconductors with highly boosted superconducting performances

E. Hannachi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) addition on the morphological, structural, magnetic, and electrical properties of the YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) bulk system. The results show that CNTs do not affect the orthorhombic structure of YBCO but can enhance critical temperatures and superconducting properties. The addition of a small amount of CNTs significantly improves critical current density and blocking force in the YBCO system.

(BaTiO3)1-x + (Co0.5Ni0.5Nb0.06Fe1.94O4)x nanocomposites: Structure, morphology, magnetic and dielectric properties

Yassine Slimani et al.

Summary: Two-phase nanocomposites of BTO and CNNFO were synthesized using solid state route. XRD analysis showed that with increasing CNNFO content, BTO crystallite size decreased while CNNFO size increased, leading to reduced porosity and enhanced grain connectivity. Optical properties revealed a decrease in band gap energy with increasing CNNFO content, and analysis of magnetic and dielectric properties indicated a significant impact of CNNFO on BTO material.

Characterization of gamma-ray and neutron radiation absorption properties of synthesized quinoline derivatives and their genotoxic potential

Burak Alaylar et al.

Summary: This study synthesized six different types of quinoline derivatives for potential use as an anti-radiation drug, and assessed their effectiveness against radiation through Monte Carlo simulation and experimental measurements. Results showed that the quinoline derivative shielding material performed better than traditional materials in absorbing radiation, and the derivatives were found to be genotoxically safe at tested concentrations. It is suggested that these new radiation shielding derivatives could be used as active ingredients in drugs developed to combat both neutron and gamma radiation.
