Application of hourglass control to Eulerian smoothed particle hydrodynamics

Shoya Mohseni-Mofidi et al.

Summary: Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is a promising method for handling large deformations in solid mechanics problems, but it faces instabilities such as tensile instability and zero-energy modes. This study aims to stabilize Eulerian SPH to accurately deal with large deformations and handle contact problems and fluid-structure interaction effectively. The proposed stabilization method proves to be easy to implement and shows good agreement with analytical solutions and finite element results in various simulation cases.

Dynamics of a pair of paramagnetic particles in shear flows under a uniform magnetic field

Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: Numerical investigation was conducted on the particle-particle interaction and relative motion of a pair of equal-sized magnetic particles in simple shear and plane Poiseuille flows. The direction and strength of the magnetic field were found to have significant effects on the dynamics of the particles, impacting their trajectories and relative motion. This study provides insights into understanding the mechanisms of particle-particle interaction in magnetorheological fluids under a uniform magnetic field.
