Matte waterborne polyurethane fabric nanocoating with versatility via mono-layered montmorillonite nanosheets

Zhengmao Ding et al.

Summary: This study reported a series of low-gloss WPU nanocoatings prepared using OMt nanosheets, applied to polyester fabric, with unique UV-shielding performance and increased thermal stability. Hydrogen bonds between OMt nanosheets and WPU molecular chains were identified as the key factor for the matte level of the coating, while the rough surface of the nanocoating directly led to the decrease in gloss.

Advanced solid-liquid separation for dewatering fine coal tailings by combining chemical reagents and solid bowl centrifugation

Cuong V. Nguyen et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of clay mineral surface chemistry in the dewatering process of clay-rich mine tailings. By neutralizing the clay surface charge with salts and flocculating with salt-resistant flocculants, an effective dewatering technique can be achieved. Combining chemical reagents with solid bowl centrifugation can deliver successful dewatering outcomes and improve water quality for recycling.

Effect of interlayer cations on montmorillonite swelling: Comparison between molecular dynamic simulations and experiments

Kenji Yotsuji et al.

Summary: This study investigated the crystalline swelling behavior of montmorillonite with different interlayer cations using molecular dynamics simulations and experimental measurements. Results showed that hydration free energy of interlayer cations and their coordination mode play a crucial role in the swelling behavior. The preference of outer- or inner-sphere complex of interlayer cations and the distribution of cations also significantly impact the swelling behavior.

Exfoliation of montmorillonite using a simple and low-cost heating/gasifying method

Renjie Liu et al.

Summary: By using a simple and low-cost heating/gasifying method, montmorillonite (MMT) can be successfully exfoliated, with the best results achieved at a heating temperature of 100 degrees Celsius and under three gasification cycles. This method shows great potential for large-scale production of exfoliated MMT nanosheets as additives for ceramic substrates and membrane technology.

Eco-friendly CO2 adsorbent by impregnation of diethanolamine in nanoclay montmorillonite

Hamid Ramezanipour Penchah et al.

Summary: This study experimentally modified the nanoclay montmorillonite adsorbent with diethanolamine to optimize CO2 adsorption operating conditions, resulting in a significant increase in adsorption capacity. The research also found that the Langmuir-Freundlich and Hill models have better precision in predicting the adsorption behavior, while the Elovich model is best suited for modeling CO2 capture data.
