Extra storage capacity in transition metal oxide lithium-ion batteries revealed by in situ magnetometry

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: Although some transition metal oxide-based electrodes exhibit high storage capacities beyond theoretical values, the surface capacitance on metal nanoparticles involving spin-polarized electrons is consistent with a space charge mechanism. The phenomenon of anomalously high storage capacities in different metal oxides is still under debate, but in situ magnetometry has shown that surface capacitance plays a dominant role in providing extra capacity. This space charge mechanism can be generalized to a broad range of transition metal compounds, providing guidance for advanced energy storage systems.

Addressing electrocatalytic activity and stability of LnBaCo(2)0(5+delta) perovskites for hydrogen evolution reaction by structural and electronic features

Yingnan Dou et al.

Summary: In this study, LnBaCo(2)O(5+delta) perovskites were reported as highly active electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), with the tolerance factor and O p/Co d-band centers proposed as efficient descriptors for their electrochemical performance. The optimal HER activity is achieved through a combination of free energies for the adsorption/dissociation of H2O and desorption of -OH/H*, facilitated by appropriate tolerance factor values and O p/Co d-band centers.

High-performance electrocatalyst of vanadium-iron bimetal organic framework arrays on nickel foam for overall water splitting

Liang Han et al.

Summary: The study successfully prepared well-defined arrays of vanadium-iron bimetal organic frameworks on nickel foam, showing excellent electrocatalytic activity and durability for both oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction in alkaline medium. The electrolyzer made from the electrode only needs a voltage of 1.61 V to reach a current density of 10 mA/cm(2), demonstrating the superior performance of the VFe-MOF@NF electrodes in water splitting.

Heteroatom-Doping of Non-Noble Metal-Based Catalysts for Electrocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution: An Electronic Structure Tuning Strategy

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: Electrocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen production is hindered by slow reaction kinetics and high-cost catalysts. Developing low-cost non-noble metal-based catalysts, particularly through heteroatom-doping to tune electronic structures, is crucial. Establishing a correlation between localized electronic structures and catalytic properties is key for advancing low-cost catalyst development.

Guangyao Zhai et al.

Summary: In this study, the introduction of Lewis acid Bi atom into the porphyrin ring of a metal-organic framework structure successfully reduced the energy barrier for the ring-opening reaction of epoxide. Additionally, the use of light in the reaction enabled the cycloaddition reaction between CO2 and epoxide to occur under ambient conditions, improving efficiency.

Intrinsic Electrocatalytic Activity for Oxygen Evolution of Crystalline 3d-Transition Metal Layered Double Hydroxides

Fabio Dionigi et al.

Summary: The research employed new synthesis strategies to obtain a broad series of crystalline LDH and electrocatalysts, with NiFe LDH showing the highest activity through electrochemical active surface area normalization. Theoretical reactivity analysis revealed that these trends originate from the dual-metal-site nature of the reaction centers, which may be utilized for designing catalysts with improved performance.

Strong metal-support interaction induced O2 activation over Au/MNb2O6 (M= Zn2+, Ni2+ and Co2+) for efficient photocatalytic benzyl alcohol oxidative esterification

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: A series of metal niobates were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, with Au nanoparticles supported on their surfaces through a NaBH4 reduction method. The strong interaction between Au and ZnNb2O6 generated a high-active peroxide species, leading to enhanced photocatalytic activity compared to Au/NiNb2O6 and Au/CoNb2O6. This modulation of interaction between Au and niobates provides a new prospect for highly selective photocatalytic oxidation reactions.
