An Overview of Proteases: Production, Downstream Processes and Industrial Applications

The bottleneck in production lies in downstream processes, which can account for a large portion of the total production costs. Production and characterization of keratinase by Ochrobactrum intermedium for feather keratin utilization

Summary: This study successfully increased the efficiency of keratinase secretion by Ochrobactrum intermedium through optimizing process parameters, revealing that the enzyme exhibited high activity and stability under specific conditions. Additionally, calcium ions were found to enhance keratinase activity, while PMSF and EDTA were able to inhibit its activity, demonstrating high efficiency in degrading poultry feathers.

Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Biochemical Characterization and Application of Thermostable-Alkaline Keratinase From Bacillus halodurans SW-X to Valorize Chicken Feather Wastes

Summary: The study successfully produced a highly efficient keratinase from Bacillus halodurans SW-X, which can be used for the hydrolysis of white chicken feathers and production of bioplastic starch/keratin. The enzyme showed high specificity towards chicken feather keratin and demonstrated the ability to degrade the waste feathers into valuable products.
