Puf4 Mediates Post-transcriptional Regulation of Cell Wall Biosynthesis and Caspofungin Resistance in Cryptococcus neoformans

Murat C. Kalem et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the lack of Puf4 in Cryptococcus neoformans results in increased resistance to caspofungin, while overexpression of Puf4 leads to increased sensitivity to the drug. Additionally, Puf4 regulates multiple cell wall biosynthesis genes and affects cell wall composition. These findings reveal a potential mechanism by which caspofungin resistance and cell wall biogenesis are post-transcriptionally regulated by Puf4.

DNA damage bypass pathways and their effect on mutagenesis in yeast

Matan Arbel et al.

Summary: The origin of mutations is not random, but largely caused by genetically encoded error-prone repair mechanisms. Cells are still unclear about when to use which repair method. For the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, at least two error-free and two error-prone inter-related mechanisms of damage tolerance have been identified.
