Imposing accurate wall boundary conditions in corrective-matrix-based moving particle semi-implicit method for free surface flow

Guangtao Duan et al.

Summary: Corrective matrix schemes are used in the MPS method to improve the accuracy of internal particles, especially in dealing with errors caused by free surface and wall boundaries. New corrective schemes are developed for Neumann boundary conditions, but instability issues remain, requiring the use of existing stable schemes. By applying stable schemes to the free surface and nearby particles and new corrective schemes to particles under a stable transitional layer, accuracy can be significantly enhanced.

Sensitivity analysis of core slumping and debris quenching behavior of Fukushima Daiichi Unit-3 accident

Xin Li et al.

Summary: The study focuses on a detailed analysis of the RPV pressure peak event that occurred in Unit-3 at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, suggesting possible scenarios for SRVs opening during pressurization and depressurization phases, and indicating that the particulate debris diameter is not a sensitive parameter in the current modeling. The study also estimates that around 70-110 GJ of energy can be removed by coolant during the debris quenching period with 30 tons of water reduction from the lower plenum.

Evaluation of core material energy change during the in-vessel phase of Fukushima Daiichi Unit 3 based on observed pressure data utilizing GOTHIC code analysis

Ikken Sato et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the vapor/hydrogen generation history in the in-vessel phase at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 3, finding that core materials were significantly cooled by water after relocation to the lower plenum. This suggests that debris was effectively cooled to near liquid water temperature within a few hours.

Development of MPS method and analytical approach for investigating RPV debris bed and lower head interaction in 1F Units-2 and 3

Nozomu Takahashi et al.

Summary: The investigation uses the Lagrangian-based Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method to study the complex solid-liquid multiphase re-melting and debris-vessel wall interactions at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Units 2 and 3. The results show possible RPV failure modes and highlight the importance of further model validations in understanding the debris retrieval process. Improvements in the MPS method have been made to enhance numerical accuracy and stability for large-scale debrisbed re-melting analyses.

Improvement of solidification model and analysis of 3D channel blockage with MPS method

Reo Kawakami et al.

Summary: A novel solidification model has been developed for analyzing melt flowing channel blockage with the moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) method. Both 2-D and 3-D analyses were conducted to validate the algorithm, showing that partial channel blockage diverts the incoming melt flow without completely blocking the channel.
