Directional Bonding in Decaniobate Inorganic Frameworks

Nicolas P. Martin et al.

Summary: Metal-oxo clusters, specifically decaniobate clusters, can be exploited to construct 1D, 2D, and 3D inorganic frameworks by utilizing their unique directional bonding and varying basicity. The dimensionality of the resulting material is controlled by the charge and size of cations, with higher dimensional materials being achieved through increased cation charge and larger cation radii. Selective ion-exchange studies show exclusive preference for Cs+ over other alkalis in the A(+)-Nb-10 family, highlighting its potential for radioactive Cs removal and sequestration.

Deliberate Construction of Polyoxoniobates Exploiting the Carbonate Ligand

Mehran Amiri et al.

Summary: Polyoxometalates are molecular metal oxides that can be isolated without capping ligands, showing high negative charge. Carbonate can reassemble with highly reactive decaniobate to form new structures with strong interactions.

Polyoxoniobates as molecular building blocks in thin films

Mark A. Rambaran et al.

Summary: Niobium oxide thin films were prepared by spin-coating aqueous solutions of tetramethylammonium salts of isostructural polyoxometalate clusters onto silicon wafers and annealing them, resulting in different crystal phases. A protocol for depositing successive layers of metal oxide films was demonstrated, and factors affecting the roughness of the films were explored.
