Transition-Metal-Mediated Functionalization of White Phosphorus

Christian M. Hoidn et al.

Summary: This review discusses the interest in transitioning from current industrial routes for transforming white phosphorus to more direct and efficient methods using transition-metal centers. The focus is on the two-step process of P-4 activation and functionalization of the resulting TM-P-n complex, highlighting the challenges in productive functionalization.

Side-on Coordination in Isostructural Nitrous Oxide and Carbon Dioxide Complexes of Nickel

Braulio M. Puerta Lombardi et al.

Summary: The nickel complex incorporating an N2O ligand with a rare eta(2)-N,N ' coordination mode was isolated and characterized. Computational studies showed that N2O binds slightly stronger to nickel than CO2 in this case, comparable to or slightly stronger than CO2 to transition metals in general. The limited stability of the N2O complex may be due to comparable transition-state energies for the formation of isomeric N,N' and N,O complexes, and a negligible activation barrier for the decomposition of the latter.
