Lab-in-a-Cup (LiC): An autonomous fluidic device for daily urinalysis using smartphone

M. Mahabubur Rahman et al.

Summary: Urine analysis is a noninvasive method suitable for routine health screening due to the wide range of biomarkers found in urine. A lab-in-a-Cup (LiC) hybrid urinalyzer has been developed using a disposable plastic cup and conventional paper-based urine sensors, enabling stable and reproducible measurements. A smartphone application with image recognition algorithm automates the analysis procedures, eliminating the reliance on manual color scheme. The LiC device can be applied as a near-patient urinalyzer, significantly improving reaction time and sample volume-dependent irregularities for colorimetric assessment of urine sensors.

How to Prevent Bubbles in Microfluidic Channels

Xiao He et al.

Summary: Microfluidic technology has wide applications in analytical science, diagnostic technology, and micro-/nanofabrication. To prevent bubble formation in microchannels, numerical simulation and experiments were integrated to analyze the factors affecting bubble prevention, such as channel structure, wettability, and liquid flow rate. Results showed that these factors could prevent bubble formation and were validated through experiments in water-flowing microchannels, offering a promising strategy for preventing bubbles in microfluidic systems.

An Integrated Centrifugal Degassed PDMS-Based Microfluidic Device for Serial Dilution

Anyang Wang et al.

Summary: An integrated serial dilution generator utilizing centrifugal force and vacuum-driven force was proposed, allowing for easy adjustment of dilution ratio and chamber volume by changing the geometrical designs of the device. The device was used for sample metering and transferring, as well as sample loading and mixing, with successful preparation of ten-fold serial dilutions and good agreement with manually prepared samples in subsequent analysis.
