Bacteria-derived long chain fatty acid exhibits anti-inflammatory properties in colitis

Julien Pujo et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that a probiotic strain contained increased levels of 3-hydroxyoctadecaenoic acid (C18-3OH), which was shown to decrease colitis in mice and was associated with anti-inflammatory properties of prebiotic fructooligosaccharides (FOS). The concentration of C18-3OH was correlated with an increase in specific bacterial genera in the microbiota. This suggests that C18-3OH production by bacteria could play a role in the anti-inflammatory properties of probiotics and in microbiota/host interactions.

First Direct Evidence of Interpartner Hydride/Deuteride Exchanges for Stored Sodiated Arginine/Fructose-6-phosphate Complex Anions within Salt-Solvated Structures

Ekaterina Darii et al.

Summary: Mass spectrometric investigations revealed the formation of stable sodiated noncovalent complex anions between fructose and arginine. Unexpected deuterium labeling and hydrogen/deuterium exchange phenomena were observed, indicating zwitterionic structures solvated by a single water molecule. Back hydrogen/deuterium exchange impact on deuterium depletion was illustrated, showing complementarity in partner exchange and selective back exchange validation of salt-solvated structures.

Optimized suspect screening approach for a comprehensive assessment of the impact of best management practices in reducing micropollutants transport in the Potomac River watershed

Mary Grace E. Guardian et al.

Summary: This study focused on a wide-scope detection of micropollutants in surface water samples from the Potomac River watershed, detecting 103 micropollutants, some of which were previously unmonitored contaminants. The potential of best management practices for nitrogen and phosphorus reductions in reducing micropollutant transport was also assessed, revealing the potential to co manage a diverse array of micropollutants based on shared transport and transformation mechanisms in watersheds.
