Recent Advances in Solid-Phase Extraction (SPE) Based on Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) for Analysis of Hormones

Anele Mpupa et al.

Summary: Steroid hormones play crucial roles in physiological activities, but their extensive use raises contamination concerns. Analyzing their concentrations in different matrices is essential for pollution management and control. Despite advances in analytical instruments, sample preparation steps are still needed, and molecularly-imprinted polymers (MIPs) are considered advanced solid-phase materials for selective extraction and preconcentration of hormones in complex matrices.

Fully automated graphitic carbon nitride-based disposable pipette extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometric analysis of six polychlorinated biphenyls in environmental waters

Sze Chieh Tan et al.

Summary: A fully automated online method using emulsification-enhanced disposable pipette extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (EE-DPX-GC-MS) was developed for the extraction of six polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from environmental waters. The use of graphitic carbon nitride as sorbent in a DPX device enabled rapid analyte adsorption and desorption, leading to high extraction efficiency. The method showed wide dynamic working ranges, good linearity, low detection limits, high enrichment factors, and good precision in both intra- and inter-day analysis.

Novel strategy for disposable pipette extraction (DPX): Low-cost Parallel-DPX for determination of phthalate migration from common plastic materials to saliva simulant with GC-MS

Ricardo Dagnoni Huelsmann et al.

Summary: Phthalic acid esters (phthalates) are commonly used as plasticizers in commercial products, raising concerns among researchers and society due to their negative impacts on living organisms, especially human health. A new analytical method named parallel-disposable pipette extraction (Pa-DPX) was described in this study, allowing for the determination of migration of 6 phthalates from common plastic materials to saliva simulant using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The method was successfully applied to determine phthalate migration in 21 samples, with di-n-octyl phthalate being detected in highest concentration, indicating a significant migration level.
