Inpatient mortality and postpartum readmission rates in sickle cell disease pregnancies: a multistate analysis, 2007-2014

Evelyn Bae et al.

Summary: Compared to non-sickle cell patients, SCD patients have higher inpatient mortality rates, lower 30-day readmission rates, higher 90-day readmission rates, longer length of stay, higher hospital charges, and higher likelihood of experiencing postpartum complications.

Racial Disparity in Postpartum Readmission due to Hypertension among Women with Pregnancy-Associated Hypertension

Rebecca Chornock et al.

Summary: Postpartum hypertension is a common cause of readmission after childbirth, especially in women with antepartum pregnancy-associated hypertension. A study was conducted to investigate racial/ethnic differences in postpartum readmission due to hypertension in these women. The results showed that older maternal age and non-Hispanic black race were associated with a higher risk of postpartum readmission due to hypertension.

Readmissions Reduction Program: Mortality and Readmissions for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Daniel A. Puebla Neira et al.

Summary: The study found a reduction in the 30-day all-cause readmission rate during the implementation period compared with the preannouncement phase. However, HRRP implementation was also associated with a significant increase in 30-day mortality after discharge from COPD hospitalization.

Summary: The study found no significant associations between HRRP and delayed readmissions, and any potential delays identified were minimal and unlikely to have clinical significance.

Summary: The study found that persistent postpartum hypertension (blood pressure ≥ 140/90 mm Hg), older maternal age, and more severe antepartum hypertension are associated with an increased risk of postpartum readmission for hypertension.

Risk factors for postpartum readmission among women after having a stillbirth

Julia D. DiTosto et al.

Summary: In women who have experienced a stillbirth, risk factors for postpartum readmission include severe maternal morbidity, hypertension, diabetes, cesarean delivery, prolonged hospital stay, non-Hispanic black race, and lower education level. Continued care is important for these women post-discharge.

Risk factors for re-presentation for postpartum hypertension in patients without a history of hypertension or preeclampsia

Sarah D. Smithson et al.

Summary: Factors such as maternal age of >= 40 years, antenatal prescription of low-dose aspirin, black race, and body mass index of >= 30 kg/m(2) were identified as significant risk factors for postpartum re-presentation for hypertension in patients without a history of hypertension. Close blood pressure monitoring and follow-up may be considered for these high-risk patients upon discharge.

A machine learning algorithm for predicting maternal readmission for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy

Matthew K. Hoffman et al.

Summary: A predictive algorithm for maternal postpartum readmission from complications of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy was developed and validated using machine learning, showing reasonable accuracy in predicting readmission based on clinical data at the time of discharge. The study divided the dataset into derivation and validation cohorts, with similar performance characteristics observed in both populations.

Summary: Lowering the blood pressure threshold to 140/90 mm Hg in postpartum hypertensive treatment can more accurately predict readmissions, effectively reducing postpartum hypertension-related readmissions compared to the current recommended threshold by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of >=150/100 mm Hg.

Risk factors for postpartum readmission for preeclampsia or hypertension before delivery discharge among low-risk women: a case-control study

David M. Stamilio et al.

Summary: This study identified risk factors for postpartum readmission for hypertension or preeclampsia among low-risk women, including non-Hispanic black race, gestational hypertension, preeclampsia during delivery admission, and maximum postpartum systolic blood pressure. These factors can be used to predict the risk of readmission, guiding postpartum care for these women.
