Pilot feasibility study of cognitive training exercises for Egyptian adults: Proof of concept

Heba M. Tawfik et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility and effectiveness of cognitive training exercises (CTE) among Egyptian adults, showing that CTE may be effective in improving overall cognitive function, especially in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Further research should focus on the efficacy of longitudinal CTE implementation in Arab adult populations.

The effectiveness of physical exercise interventions in the management of neuropsychiatric symptoms in dementia patients: a systematic review

Komanthi Kouloutbani et al.

Summary: The study found that repetitive aerobic exercise three to five times a week had a positive effect on NPS, whereas multidimensional interventions combining different types of exercise did not appear to be as effective. Strength training programs have been found to significantly reduce depression symptoms and behavioral problems in demented patients with mobility problems.

Dementia Incidence in the Elderly Population of Greece: Results From the HELIAD Study

George S. Vlachos et al.

Summary: A study in Greece on the dementia incidence rate among individuals aged 65 years and above found that advancing age, baseline MCI diagnosis, and APOE-epsilon 4 homozygosity are risk factors, while higher educational attainment appears to be protective. The incidence rate in Greece is generally consistent with rates reported in Europe and North America.

Challenging behavior of nursing home residents during COVID-19 measures in the Netherlands

Ruslan Leontjevas et al.

Summary: The study investigated changes in challenging behavior of NH residents during COVID-19 measures among 323 NH practitioners in the Netherlands. Findings showed that half of the practitioners experienced increased workload and decreased satisfaction. Different strategies, such as video calls and adjusting activities, were described to respond to the effects of COVID-19 measures.

Complexity of EEG Dynamics for Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease Using Permutation Entropy Neuromarker

Mesut Seker et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop a three-way diagnostic classification for the detection of MCI/AD using EEG complexity analysis. Results show that PE values are lower in AD and higher in HC group, while MCI group falls in an intermediate state. Classification using multinomial logistic regression model indicates that eyes-open condition enhances discrimination of MCI and AD.

TARDBP p.I383V, a recurrent alteration in Greek FTD patients

Eirini Charoniti et al.

Summary: The study revealed the presence of the SNP p.I383V in the TARDBP gene in Greek FTD patients and developed a novel method for its detection. Although the frequency of this SNP in the general population is extremely low, it may be a recurrent and pathogenic mutation in the Greek FTD population.
