Surfactant location and internal phase volume fraction dictate emulsion electrospun fiber morphology and modulate drug release and cell response

Pamela M. Johnson et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of surfactant and internal phase volume fraction on emulsion electrospun fiber morphology. The results showed that surfactant relocation altered fiber surface and internal morphology, increasing water absorption rate, while increasing internal phase volume fraction could increase drug loading without affecting fiber properties. All meshes promoted cell adhesion and viability, indicating the potential of emulsion electrospinning in tissue engineering applications.
