Effect of shrub-grass vegetation coverage and slope gradient on runoff and sediment yield under simulated rainfall

Dandan Han et al.

Summary: The study found that vegetation coverage and slope gradient significantly affect runoff and sediment yield. Shrub-grass vegetation coverage can effectively increase runoff and sediment yield reduction benefits, but these benefits are influenced by rainfall intensity.

Trait-based sediment retention and runoff control by herbaceous vegetation in agricultural catchments: A review

Lea Kervroedan et al.

Summary: Soil degradation caused by concentrated runoff and erosion poses significant environmental and economic risks, particularly in agricultural areas with temperate climates. Utilizing herbaceous vegetation to increase hydraulic resistance and reduce runoff and erosion can be hindered by species specificity and intraspecific variability. A trait-based approach can help in understanding the direct effects of vegetation on mitigation of runoff and erosion while also enhancing sediment retention.

Trade-offs Among Ecosystem Services After Vegetation Restoration in China's Loess Plateau

Peng Shi et al.

Summary: The large-scale vegetation restoration program in China's Loess Plateau has positively impacted soil organic carbon storage, soil total nitrogen storage, and soil conservation service, but has led to a decrease in soil water content. There are significant trade-offs among different types of vegetation land-use, with grassland having a greater impact on soil water content, soil organic carbon storage, and soil total nitrogen storage. Coordination of ecosystem services and the use of grassland in water limited areas are important for regional sustainable development.

Characterisation of soil erosion and overland flow on vegetation-growing slopes in fragile ecological regions: A review

Dongdong Wang et al.

Summary: This study reviewed the core issues for future research and resolved current research bottlenecks to promote the balance of soil, water, and energy in fragile ecological areas. The integration of above-and below-ground characteristics of vegetation is crucial in explaining rangeland slope erosion and runoff changes. Comprehensive indicators of vegetation at different erosion stages are vital in rangeland erosion research.
