Synthesis of Polysubstituted Phenols by Rhodium-Catalyzed C-H/Diazo Coupling and Tandem Annulation

Min Liu et al.

Summary: The rhodium(III)-catalyzed C-H/diazo coupling and tandem annulation of 3-oxopent-4-enenitriles have been proposed for the synthesis of polysubstituted phenols, yielding most products in good yields. Preliminary mechanistic studies and derivatization reactions of phenol products were also conducted, offering an alternative approach for synthesizing a variety of useful phenols.

Ruthenium(II)-Catalyzed C-C/C-N Coupling of 2-Arylquinazolinones with Vinylene Carbonate: Access to Fused Quinazolinones

Zhao-Hui Wang et al.

Summary: This work presents a ruthenium(II)-catalyzed C-C/C-N annulation of 2-arylquinazolinones with vinylene carbonate to synthesize fused quinazolinones, showing excellent substrate tolerance and functional-group compatibility. The use of vinylene carbonate as an ethynol surrogate without external oxidants is highlighted, along with preliminary mechanistic studies and a proposed catalytic cycle.

Copper-catalyzed domino synthesis of benzo[d]imidazo[5,1-b][1,3]selenazoles involving sequential intermolecular cycloaddition and intramolecular Ullmann-type C-Se bond formation

Kelu Yan et al.

Summary: The efficient copper-catalyzed cascade cyclization of 2-haloaryl isoselenocyanates with isocyanides has been developed under ligand-free conditions, leading to the synthesis of benzo[d]imidazo[5,1-b][1,3]selenazoles. This protocol utilizes less common isoselenocyanates as selenium sources to prepare a novel class of selenium-containing heterocyclic compounds through sequential intermolecular [3 + 2] cycloaddition and intramolecular Ullmann-type C-Se bond formation.

Rhodium-catalysed direct formylmethylation using vinylene carbonate and sequential dehydrogenative esterification

Moena Kato et al.

Summary: The study reports a rhodium-catalysed direct formylmethylation using vinylene carbonate as an ethynol equivalent. The developed catalytic system is further applied in the oxidant-free production of esters with hydrogen gas liberation. Control experiments are conducted to elucidate the reaction mechanism.

Vinylene carbonate: beyond the ethyne surrogate in rhodium-catalyzed annulation with amidines toward 4-methylquinazolines†

Chang Wang et al.

Summary: A rhodium-catalyzed annulation of vinylene carbonate with amidines was developed in this paper, leading to 4-methylquinazolines with moderate to excellent yields. The procedure proceeded by sequential ortho-acylation and annulation, utilizing vinylene carbonate as the acetylation reagent.

Kelu Yan et al.

Summary: The visible-light-promoted cascade cyclization of 2-haloaryl isothiocyanates and isocyanides to access benzo[d]imidazo[5,1-b]thiazoles has been efficiently realized under metal- and photocatalyst-free conditions. This protocol offers advantages such as readily available and inexpensive substrates, metal catalyst-free, step and atom economy, and mild reaction conditions.
