Photocrosslinked natural hydrogel composed of hyaluronic acid and gelatin enhances cartilage regeneration of decellularized trachea matrix

Yong Xu et al.

Summary: The repair of long segmental tracheal defects is a significant challenge in clinical practice. A novel strategy using a photocrosslinked natural hydrogel carrier was proposed to improve cell retention efficiency and enhance tracheal cartilage regeneration. This strategy significantly enhanced cell-seeding efficiency, achieved stable cell retention, and provided a natural three-dimensional biomimetic microenvironment for promoting chondrocyte survival, extracellular matrix production, and cartilage regeneration.

3D Printed Biomimetic PCL Scaffold as Framework Interspersed With Collagen for Long Segment Tracheal Replacement

Yunlang She et al.

Summary: The study introduces a biomimetic scaffold with a separated-ring structure, created using 3D printing and collagen sponge embedding to mimic the anatomy and mechanical behavior of a native trachea. In vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed the success of the biomimetic trachea, with a long-segment tracheal replacement in a rabbit model demonstrating satisfactory repair outcomes.

Biological Evaluation of Acellular Cartilaginous and Dermal Matrixes as Tissue Engineering Scaffolds for Cartilage Regeneration

Yahui Wang et al.

Summary: In tissue engineering applications, an acellular dermal matrix (ADM) has been found to be more suitable for cartilage regeneration compared to an acellular cartilaginous matrix (ACM). ADM scaffolds exhibited better cell adhesion rate, more homogeneous chondrocyte distribution, and neocartilage formation. Subcutaneous implantation in a goat showed that ADM achieved more stable and matured cartilage.

A Biomimetic Biphasic Scaffold Consisting of Decellularized Cartilage and Decalcified Bone Matrixes for Osteochondral Defect Repair

Runfeng Cao et al.

Summary: The study developed a biomimetic biphasic scaffold for osteochondral defect repair, controlling the composition, stiffness, and pore size to promote adhesion, proliferation, chondrogenic, and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow stem cells. In vitro and in vivo results showed that the biphasic scaffold significantly enhanced concomitant repair of superficial cartilage and subchondral bone, demonstrating its promising osteochondral repair effect.

Systematic Analysis of Composition, Interfacial Performance and Effects of Pulmonary Surfactant Preparations on Cellular Uptake and Cytotoxicity of Aerosolized Nanomaterials

Benedikt Huck et al.

Summary: By investigating the interactions between nanoparticles and pulmonary surfactant, researchers found that surfactant preparations with high interfacial activity and distinctive composition can reduce the toxicity of aerosolized particles and help decrease the aggregation of aerosolized particles. These findings help identify key requirements when studying interactions of nanomaterials with the pulmonary air-blood barrier in vitro.
