Turn-On Circularly Polarized Luminescence in Metal-Organic Frameworks

Xue-Zhi Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a family of homochiral metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and metal-organic cages (MOCs) were constructed by solvothermal subcomponent self-assembly. The homochiral MOFs showed clear CPL signals, while the CPL of homochiral MOCs was silent. Despite having similar spectra of circular dichroism and photoluminescence, the CPL activity of MOFs and MOCs differed.

AIE-Active Chiral [3]Rotaxanes with Switchable Circularly Polarized Luminescence

Wei-Jian Li et al.

Summary: A new family of AIE-active chiral [3]rotaxanes were designed and synthesized, with a novel CPL switching system successfully constructed by controlling the motions of the chiral pillar[5]arene macrocycles along the axle through the addition or removal of acetate anions. This resulted in reversible transformations between two emission states with high PLQYs and g(lum) values.

A chemosensor-based chiral coassembly with switchable circularly polarized luminescence

Qiuhong Cheng et al.

Summary: This study presents a coassembled multiple component system that responds to SO2 derivatives, leading to dynamic aggregation behaviors and switchable luminescence as well as circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). Fluorescent chemosensors show fast response to analytes with pronounced luminescent variations, potentially controlling luminescence and chiroptical activities of self-assembled chiral systems. Energy transfer in the system enables CPL transition, and the addition of SO2 derivatives alters the luminescence properties through nucleophilic addition reactions.

Multi-Light-Responsive Upconversion-and-Downshifting-Based Circularly Polarized Luminescent Switches in Chiral Metal-Organic Frameworks

Tonghan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study successfully constructed a dual CPL switch with light-responsive properties by loading a luminescent substance and nanoparticles into metal-organic frameworks. A reversible UC-CPL switch was realized through energy transfer, with significantly amplified asymmetry factor compared to DS-CPL. A chiroptical logic circuit with a 2D information output was designed using UV, visible, and NIR light inputs.
