Efficient n-Doping of Polymeric Semiconductors through Controlling the Dynamics of Solution-State Polymer Aggregates

Miao Xiong et al.

Summary: The miscibility issue in n-doped polymeric semiconductors can be overcome by modulating the solution-state aggregates of conjugated polymers, leading to high doping efficiency and charge-carrier mobility. This method can also be applied to improve the doping efficiency of other polymer systems with different aggregation tendencies.

Cyano-Functionalized Bithiophene Imide-Based n-Type Polymer Semiconductors: Synthesis, Structure-Property Correlations, and Thermoelectric Performance

Kui Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of novel acceptor building blocks, CNI, CNTI, and CNDTI, were successfully developed by introducing strong electron-withdrawing cyano functionality on BTI and its derivatives. Based on these novel building blocks, high-performance n-type polymers with deep-positioned LUMOs were synthesized, showing excellent stability and doping efficiency. These polymers exhibit the highest electrical conductivity of 23.3 S m-1 and a power factor of up to 10 mu W m-1 K-2, which are among the highest values reported for solution-processed molecularly n-doped polymers.

N-type Semiconducting Polymers Based on Dicyano Naphthobisthiadiazole: High Electron Mobility with Unfavorable Backbone Twist

Keitaro Iguchi et al.

Summary: The development of n-type semiconducting polymers is crucial for organic electronic devices. By converting the fluorine groups on the NTz moiety into cyano groups, the resulting polymers based on dicyano NTz exhibit ambipolar and/or n-type characteristics, with improved electron affinity and lowered LUMO levels despite the steric twist caused by the cyano groups. The high crystalline structure formed by the dicyano NTz-based polymers and the short contacts between the cyano group and NTz core contribute to their high electron mobilities in organic field-effect transistors.

Alignment of linear polymeric grains for highly stable N-type thin-film transistors

Yingying Jiang et al.

Summary: The study finds that polyacrylonitrile can significantly affect the sizes of pre-aggregates of polymers in solutions and stabilize electron mobility over a wide range of temperatures. The linear-grain morphology of the film contributed to reducing the holes and grain boundaries in the transport paths of carriers.

Tuning the Photophysical and Electrochemical Properties of Aza-Boron-Dipyridylmethenes for Fluorescent Blue OLEDs

Abegail C. Tadle et al.

Summary: Substituted aza-boron-dipyridylmethene (aD) compounds have been demonstrated as efficient fluorescent dopant emitters in blue organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), emitting violet to blue light with high photoluminescent quantum yields. The destabilization of the highest occupied molecular orbital in aD leads to small energy differences between their singlet and triplet excited states, contributing to the high external quantum efficiency of OLEDs with aza-boron-dipyridylmethene emitting fluorophores.

Systematically investigating the effect of the aggregation behaviors in solution on the charge transport properties of BDOPV-based polymers with conjugation-break spacers

Yi Liu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that conjugation-break spacers in conjugated polymers have a significant impact on aggregation behaviors in solutions and morphology in the solid state. The introduction of different ratios of non-conjugated bridges into the polymer backbone results in different aggregation behaviors in dilute solutions, which in turn affect morphology structures in thin films, leading to varying charge transport properties and doping efficiencies.
