Summary: The additive methyl trifluoroacetate (CH(3)TFA) in Li-S electrolyte reacts with lithium polysulfides to form beneficial lithium trifluoroacetate (LiTFA) and dimethyl polysulfides. Both the methyl group and trifluoroacetate anion significantly enhance Li-S discharge behavior while improving solution coordination and discharge kinetics. CH(3)TFA represents a new class of additives for Li-S batteries, allowing in situ molecular engineering for improved performance.
