Ultrasonic Interfacial Engineering of Red Phosphorous-Metal for Eradicating MRSA Infection Effectively

Wei Guan et al.

Summary: Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is limited by the hypoxia environment of deep tissues, but a potential solution, sonothermal therapy, has been proposed in this study. By developing ultrasonic interfacial engineering of metal-red phosphorus (RP), the sonothermal ability is significantly improved. The mechanical energy of ultrasound activates the motion of interfacial electrons to efficiently transfer the energy into phonons, resulting in stronger ultrasound absorption of metal-RP.

Near-infrared light triggered photodynamic and nitric oxide synergistic antibacterial nanocomposite membrane

Jing Sun et al.

Summary: A nitric oxide-assisted PDT nanocomposite membrane was developed for significantly enhanced bactericidal performances under a single near-infrared light irradiation. The generated nitric oxide exhibited a larger sterilization area compared to reactive oxygen species, demonstrating a vital complementary advantage in facilitating PDT antibacterial efficacy as proven in in vitro and in vivo tests. This type of nanocomposite membrane may have unique biomedical applications where both highly enhanced PDT antibacterial effects and deep penetration of NIR light are desired.

Coordination-Driven Enhancement of Radiosensitization by Black Phosphorus via Regulating Tumor Metabolism

Leung Chan et al.

Summary: The coordination-driven surface modification strategy was used to synthesize a high biostability two-dimensional layered nanosystem (RGD-Ir@BP) for cancer therapy. The nanosystem effectively inhibited nasopharyngeal carcinoma tumor growth with minor side effects in vivo, and down-regulated the tumor proliferative mark of prostaglandin E2 in cancer cells based on untargeted metabolomics analysis. This study provides a design strategy of high-performance coordination-driven BP-based nanosensitizer in cancer radiotherapy.
