Doping-Free All PtSe2 Transistor via Thickness-Modulated Phase Transition

Tanmoy Das et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates high-performance all-PtSe2 FETs by vertically integrating a metallic thick PtSe2 source/drain onto the semiconducting ultrathin PtSe2 channel, successfully overcoming the metal contact issue in 2D semiconductors. The transferred metallic PtSe2 induces a semiconductor-to-metal phase transition in the underlying semiconducting PtSe2, achieving fully metallized source/drain and semiconducting channel within the same platform. The PtSe2 FETs exhibit excellent gate tunability, superior mobility, and low contact resistance, providing a new device paradigm for 2D nanoelectronics.

Gaozhong Wang et al.

Summary: This article reviews the recent progress in sensing, photonic, and (opto-) electronic applications of PtSe2, a 2D layered material that is likely to be used in industries due to its high air-stability and compatible fabrication methods with semiconductor technology. It compares the advantages and disadvantages of various synthesis methods for PtSe2, discusses its outstanding properties and industrial advantages, reviews the research on the broadband nonlinear photonic properties of PtSe2, and summarizes its use as a saturable absorber in ultrafast lasers. Additionally, it outlines the advances achieved in PtSe2-based field-effect transistors, photodetectors, and sensors.

Ferromagnetism in PtTe2 monolayer introduced by doping 3d transition metal atoms and group VA and VIIB atoms

Wei Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the introduction of ferromagnetism into PtTe2 monolayer by doping with 3d transition metal atoms and group VA and VIIB atoms using first-principles calculations. Results show that certain doped monolayers exhibit ferromagnetic properties while others exhibit antiferromagnetic or nonmagnetic properties. The findings may lead to new experimental explorations and expanded applications in spintronics for layered transition-metal ditellurides.

Ordered clustering of single atomic Te vacancies in atomically thin PtTe2 promotes hydrogen evolution catalysis

Xinzhe Li et al.

Summary: Exposing and stabilizing undercoordinated platinum sites to optimize their adsorption properties offers a desirable strategy for developing efficient Pt-based electrocatalysts. In this study, atomically thin PtTe2 nanosheets with single atomic Te vacancies were used as model electrocatalysts, resulting in enhanced activity and stability in hydrogen evolution reaction by precisely regulating the Pt catalytic sites.

Layer-Dependent Band Gaps of Platinum Dichalcogenides

Jingfeng Li et al.

Summary: The electronic properties of platinum dichalcogenides can be tuned by controlling the number of layers, with monolayer PtSe2 and PtTe2 exhibiting band gaps of 1.8 and 0.6 eV, respectively. Experimental data compared to DFT calculations show the sensitivity of the band gap to interlayer separation, indicating the potential for gap tuning using stress. Additionally, modest pressures can significantly reduce the gap in Pt dichalcogenides, making them suitable for pressure sensing applications.
