Effect of toothbrush bristle stiffness and toothbrushing force on the abrasive dentine wear

Blend Hamza et al.

Summary: The study found that using a soft-bristle toothbrush did not significantly increase abrasive dentine wear with increasing brushing force, while using a medium-bristle toothbrush resulted in an increase in dentine wear with increasing brushing force from 1 to 3 N. However, increasing the brushing force to 4 N did not significantly increase wear.

ANTI-PLAQUE AND ANTI-GINGIVITIS EFFICACY OF DIFFERENT BRISTLE STIFFNESS AND END-SHAPE TOOTHBRUSHES ON INTERPROXIMAL SURFACES: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW WITH META-ANALYSIS

Gerson Pedro Jose Langa et al.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the efficacy of different toothbrush bristle stiffness and end-shape on interproximal plaque and gingival inflammation reduction. Results showed that soft tapered-tip bristle toothbrushes demonstrated greater reduction in plaque and gingivitis compared to soft end-rounded bristle toothbrushes. Additionally, medium or hard toothbrushes may have better results in noninterproximal cleaners.

Effect of dentifrice slurry abrasivity and erosive challenge on simulated non-carious cervical lesions development in vitro

Summary: The study revealed that higher abrasive levels in toothpaste slurries lead to increased surface loss in teeth, while acidic challenges do not have a significant impact on this. After an increase in brushing strokes, significant surface loss was recorded in all groups.
