Solute-point defect interactions, coupled diffusion, and radiation-induced segregation in fcc nickel

E. Toijer et al.

Summary: This study investigates radiation-induced segregation in face centered cubic Ni-X dilute binary alloys, examining the tendencies and effects of solutes during migration. The results show different segregation behaviors of solutes during radiation-induced migration, providing important insights into the kinetic properties of materials.

Radiation-induced swelling and precipitation in Fe++ ion-irradiated ferritic/martensitic steels

Myeongkyu Lee et al.

Summary: The newly developed ferritic/martensitic steels FC92-B and -N showed the greatest swelling resistance, with FC92-N having a swelling rate of 0.005 %/dpa. The least swelling-resistant alloy was HT9, with a swelling rate of 0.048 %/dpa. The unique M2X precipitation in the FC92 series may be attributed to B and N alloying.

Striking effect of solute elements (Mn, Ni) on radiation-induced segregation/precipitation in iron-based model alloys

L. T. Belkacemi et al.

Summary: The effects of Mn and Ni on microstructure evolution under irradiation in Fe-based alloys were investigated. Irradiation promoted the formation of dislocation loops in both FeNi and FeMn alloys. Radiation-induced segregation and precipitation of a FCC phase were observed in FeNi alloy, while highly enriched decorated dislocation loops with a higher Mn segregation were observed in FeMn alloy.

Multiscale modeling of the effects of temperature, radiation flux, and sink strength on point-defect and solute redistribution in dilute Fe-based alloys

Liangzhao Huang et al.

Summary: This work investigates radiation-induced segregation (RIS) and establishes an analytic model of the PD and solute RIS profiles, demonstrating significant differences in diffusion and RIS behaviors of PDs and solute atoms across different kinetic domains. At high radiation flux, low temperature, and large sink strength, forced atomic relocations (FAR) may disrupt solute RIS profiles, reducing overall RIS by causing mixing of solute and host atoms.

Free surface impact on radiation damage in pure nickel by in-situ self-ion irradiation: can it be avoided?

Kan Ma et al.

Summary: The study shows: (i) significant influence of specimen thickness on microstructural evolution and irradiated microstructure with a critical thickness depending on temperature; (ii) accurate prediction of an adequate irradiation thickness using a vacancy concentration calculation model; (iii) impact of free surfaces on the fine distribution of loop Burgers vectors.

Thermodynamic model for lattice point defect-mediated semi-coherent precipitation in alloys

Maylise Nastar et al.

Summary: Lattice point defects play a critical role in the precipitation process of secondary phases, mediating the creation or removal of lattice sites to maintain coherency. This mechanism explains unexpected phase transformations in solid materials during synthesis and use.
