Repair of peripheral nerve defects by nerve grafts incorporated with extracellular vesicles from skin-derived precursor Schwann cells

Summary: Our study successfully demonstrated the beneficial effects of incorporating SKP-SC-EVs into nerve grafts for peripheral nerve regeneration in rats. The nerve grafts accelerated the recovery of motor, sensory, and electrophysiological functions, facilitated axon regeneration and myelination, as well as alleviated muscle atrophy. The findings suggest that SKP-SC-EVs-incorporating nerve grafts could represent a promising approach for peripheral nerve injury repair.

This work highlights the potential of exosomes as therapeutic nanoparticles for acellular tissue engineering.
