2D Nb2SiTe4 and Nb2GeTe4: promising thermoelectric figure of merit and gate-tunable thermoelectric performance

Xuming Wu et al.

Summary: The experimentally synthesized Nb2SiTe4 has been identified as a stable layered narrow-gap semiconductor, with its few-layers based field-effect transistors (FETs) showing potential for ambipolar devices and mid-infrared detection. Research has demonstrated that monolayers of Nb2XTe4 exhibit large p-type Seebeck coefficients, with the gate voltage effect enhancing the thermoelectric performance of Nb2SiTe4-based FETs. The study suggests that Nb2XTe4 monolayers are promising candidates for 2D thermoelectric materials and devices.

High electron mobility and transverse negative magnetoresistance in van der Waals material Nb2GeTe4

Xue Han et al.

Summary: The two-dimensional semiconductor Nb2GeTe4 exhibits high electron mobility and unusual transverse negative magnetoresistance, making it a competitive material for the design of 2D electronic devices. With an optical band gap of approximately 0.39 eV, Nb2GeTe4 shows exceptional properties at room temperature. Additionally, an anomalous negative magnetoresistance behavior is observed at low temperatures, with a maximum MR reaching around -31% at 5 K and 5 T.

Inherited weak topological insulator signatures in the topological hourglass semimetal Nb3XTe6 (X = Si, Ge)

Q. Wan et al.

Summary: By using spin-resolved and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, as well as first-principles calculations, the study identified bulk band inversion and a spin-polarized surface state evolved from a weak topological insulator phase in van der Waals materials Nb3XTe6 (X = Si, Ge). The unique topological state with nonsymmorphic symmetry protection consists of a pair of valence and conduction bands encoding weak TI and hourglass semimetal nature, differing from previously studied TIs based on band inversions without symmetry protections.

Ultrafast photonics applications based on evanescent field interactions with 2D molybdenum carbide (Mo2C)

Shunxiang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, Mo2C nanosheets were synthesized using a liquid-phase exfoliation method, and their nonlinear optical properties were investigated. A mode-locker based on a Mo2C saturable absorber (SA) was prepared and employed in fiber lasers, resulting in highly stable mode-locked fiber lasers at both 1 micron and 1.5 micron scales. The experimental results of using a D-shaped Mo2C SA as a broadband mode-locker show advantages compared to previous studies on Mo2C.
