Theoretical modeling of a giant colloidal core-shell quantum dot with an alloyed interfacial layer for solar cell applications

Anupam Sahu et al.

Summary: A theoretical modeling of a giant colloidal core-shell quantum dot with a strain-adapting alloyed interfacial layer between the core and shell materials for solar cell applications is proposed. The modified detailed balance model is further adjusted to obtain a more realistic conversion efficiency of the CdSe/CdSexS1-x/CdS quantum dot solar cell, considering the significant impact of the energy gap and oscillator strength. The results show that the proposed model approximates the experimental studies of similar dot structure and dimensions in terms of conversion efficiency and photoluminescence peak wavelength.

Colloidal quantum dot lasers

Young-Shin Park et al.

Summary: Semiconductor nanocrystals, also known as colloidal quantum dots, offer promising properties for optical-gain media that can be manipulated via colloidal techniques. Recent advances in understanding and controlling light amplification processes have led to breakthroughs in optically pumped continuous-wave lasing and development of novel dual-function electroluminescent devices that also function as optically pumped lasers. This review evaluates the state of colloidal quantum dot lasing and discusses challenges and opportunities in the field.

Enhancing Dielectric Screening for Auger Suppression in CdSe/CdS Quantum Dots by Epitaxial Growth of ZnS Shell

Xiaoqi Hou et al.

Summary: Auger recombination is effectively reduced in high-quality quantum dots by enhancing dielectric screening of band-edge carriers with additional ZnS shells. The volume scaling of negative-trion Auger lifetime is achieved with ZnS shells, which can be less than half the volume of QDs without these shells, while also enhancing the biexciton emission quantum yield. The engineering of Auger effects through dielectric screening presents new opportunities for improving emission properties in multicarrier states of quantum dots.
