Mechanical properties of graphene oxide-silk fibroin bionanofilms via nanoindentation experiments and finite element analysis

Hyeonho Cho et al.

Summary: This study investigates the enhancement of mechanical properties of graphene oxide-silk fibroin bionanofilms through water vapor annealing. The results show that the indentation modulus and hardness of the bionanofilms can be improved by water vapor annealing. The mechanism is established through finite element analysis simulation models.

Designing the Bending Stiffness of 2D Material Heterostructures

Jaehyung Yu et al.

Summary: By introducing low-friction twisted or heterointerfaces, the bending stiffness of 2D heterostructures can be tailored, making them more deformable than conventional thin-film electronic devices. Research shows that when each atomic layer is separated by heterointerfaces, the total bending stiffness reaches a theoretical minimum, transferring the extreme deformability of 2D monolayers to device-compatible multilayers.

Reduced graphene oxide-based wearable and bio-electrolyte triggered pressure sensor with tunable sensitivity

Hyeonho Cho et al.

Summary: The wearable pressure sensor introduced in this study utilizes rGO-PP composite material and generates power through self-powered galvanic cells with bio-electrolytes extracted from human skin, avoiding the need for complicated circuits and facilitating practical use. By adjusting the number of serially connected galvanic cells, the sensitivity range of the sensor can be tailored.

Temperature-dependent rheological behavior of nanofluids rich in carbon-based nanoparticles

Jongsuk Lee et al.

Summary: The temperature-dependent viscosity of nanofluids consisting carbon-based nanoparticles (CBNs) was investigated with steady-shear viscometry. The study found that the viscosity of nanofluids decreased until 30 degrees C and increased thereafter, with CBN nanofluids having lower dynamic viscosity than the base fluid. The size of percolation participants and their interaction with nanoparticles influenced the behavior of nanofluids, resulting in a reduction in dynamic viscosity.

High-strength scalable graphene sheets by freezing stretch-induced alignment

Sijie Wan et al.

Summary: The study used covalent and pi-pi inter-platelet bridging to permanently freeze the stretch-induced alignment of graphene sheets, increasing the isotropic in-plane sheet strength to 1.55 GPa, while maintaining a high Young's modulus, electrical conductivity and weight-normalized shielding efficiency. The graphene sheets fabricated at near room temperature are scalable and can be easily bonded together using a commercial resin without significantly decreasing performance.

Highly anisotropic and flexible piezoceramic kirigami for preventing joint disorders

Ying Hong et al.

Summary: This study introduces a highly anisotropic piezoelectric network composite sensor based on kirigami structure to monitor multiple information of joint motions and distinguish them within one sensor unit. By designing a functional piezoceramic kirigami with honeycomb network structure, the sensor achieves stretchability, high sensitivity, and high anisotropy towards bending directions.

Tunable thickness and uniform drop deposition of graphene oxide on porous anodic aluminum oxide and a reliable thickness measurement technique

Hyeonho Cho et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the successful engineering of graphene oxide film thickness using porous anodic aluminum oxide substrates, resulting in uniform film deposition. The outstanding thickness controllability and uniformity of the GO films were achieved through tailorable hydrodynamic flow in sessile droplets. A novel approach for measuring micro/nanoscale thicknesses of GO films using an optical microscope was developed, showing good agreement with atomic force microscopy results and offering potential applications in wearable sensors, filtration, and inkjet printing.
