Roles of Transition Metal Substrates in Graphene Chemical Vapor Deposition Growth

Ting Cheng et al.

Summary: Graphene growth on metal substrates through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is facilitated by the catalytic role of the metal substrate in carbon feedstock decomposition, graphene nucleation, and growth. The substrate controls the orientation of graphene and influences the growth modes on different metal surfaces. Additionally, the formation of wrinkles and step bunches in graphene is discussed, highlighting the strong interaction between graphene and the substrate.
