Applications of Few-Layer Nb2C MXene: Narrow-Band Photodetectors and Femtosecond Mode-Locked Fiber Lasers

Lingfeng Gao et al.

Summary: The physicochemical properties of niobium carbide have been widely explored, showing potential applications in photoelectronics. Few-layer Nb2C MXene can be used as a building block for photoelectrochemical-type photodetectors and mode-lockers, with adjustable photoresponse performance. Additionally, Nb2C nanosheets demonstrate stability in ultrastable pulses for optical switches and high harmonic orders in fiber lasers. These results expand the application prospects of two-dimensional MXenes in various photoelectronic devices.

Hetero-MXenes: Theory, Synthesis, and Emerging Applications

Lingfeng Gao et al.

Summary: MXenes have gained increasing attention since their discovery in 2011, with a shift towards studying MXenes with diverse compositions, particularly in terms of doping and substituting. The synthesis, properties, and emerging applications of hetero-MXenes are areas of active research that show great potential for high performance in energy storage, electrocatalysis, and sensing applications. Challenges and future prospects for hetero-MXenes are also being addressed in order to bridge the gap between theoretical predictions and experimental results.

Ultra-Small 2D PbS Nanoplatelets: Liquid-Phase Exfoliation and Emerging Applications for Photo-Electrochemical Photodetectors

Lingfeng Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, ultra-small 2D PbS nanoplatelets (NPLs) with uniform size were successfully fabricated using a liquid-phase exfoliation approach. The NPLs-based photodetectors (PDs) showed excellent photo-response performance, with high responsivity and detectivity, outperforming current PEC-type PDs. The outstanding properties of the NPLs were further analyzed through first-principle calculations, indicating promising applications in optoelectronic devices and potential breakthrough developments in other fields.

A Facile Approach for Elemental-Doped Carbon Quantum Dots and Their Application for Efficient Photodetectors

Lingfeng Gao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a facile hydrothermal approach for synthesizing lanthanide-doped carbon quantum dots with europium and/or gadolinium elements, which are used as building blocks for photo-electrochemical photodetectors and exhibit better photo-response and long-term stability. The europium and gadolinium co-doped quantum dots show great potential for narrow-band photodetectors, highlighting the practical applications of lanthanide-doped CQDs for photodetectors.

Point and complex defects in monolayer PdSe2: Evolution of electronic structure and emergence of magnetism

Artem Kuklin et al.

Summary: Layered transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are emerging materials that exhibit defect-induced properties, such as the emergence of magnetism at the nanoscale. PdSe2, in particular, has been shown to have spin-polarized states induced by defects, allowing for the introduction of magnetization. The controlled introduction of defects in TMDs can tailor the electromagnetic properties, making them a promising platform for optoelectronic devices.

Tailoring the ultrafast and nonlinear photonics of MXenes through elemental replacement

Hualong Chen et al.

Summary: MXenes have emerged as promising candidates for new generation optoelectronic devices due to their outstanding electronic properties and unique chemical surface termination units. However, there is still a gap in understanding the ultrafast carrier photo-physics dynamics and nonlinear optical response in MXenes. Research on few-layer Ti3CN and Ti3C2 nanosheets has revealed opposite transient absorption and nonlinear absorption characteristics, as well as the presence of photo-induced bandgap renormalization and Pauli blocking phenomena. Element replacement may offer a new strategy for tuning the carrier kinetics and nonlinear optical response of MXenes, providing insight into ultrafast carrier photo-physics dynamics and advancing MXene-based photonics applications in optoelectronic devices.
