The effect of D-spacing on the ion selectivity performance of MXene membrane

Faezeh Arshadi et al.

Summary: This study utilized MD simulations to investigate the effects of nanochannel size and free interlayer spacing on ion separation and ion transport. Results showed that increasing the free interlayer spacing within a certain range can enhance overall ionic conductivity but decrease selectivity for Li+ and K+. Experimental data corroborated the simulation findings, further revealing the ion transport mechanism through MXene nanochannels.

Ion-Selective MXene-Based Membranes: Current Status and Prospects

Mohammad Mozafari et al.

Summary: Traditional polymeric membranes are no longer sufficient for water treatment due to water pollution, while composite membranes, especially those incorporating MXenes, show promising improvements in water permeation and ion rejection. MXenes have gained attention for their appealing properties and wide applications, making them a compatible material for incorporation into various polymeric matrices. The strong interaction between polymer chains and MXenes surface functional groups, as well as the creation of selective nanochannels, result in composite membranes with attractive electrical, thermal, mechanical, and transport properties.
