Side Chain Engineered Naphthalene Diimide-Based Terpolymer for Efficient and Mechanically Robust All-Polymer Solar Cells

Jin-Woo Lee et al.

Summary: By developing new naphthalene dimide-based polymer acceptors, we have achieved superior power conversion efficiency and mechanical robustness of all-polymer solar cells compared to devices based on N2200. The enhanced charge generation and transport abilities of the new polymer acceptors contribute to the improved performance, with high electron mobility and optimal domain size and purity. Furthermore, the blend of PBDB-T:PNDIHD/DT-0.41 exhibits excellent mechanical robustness, with a high initial power conversion efficiency maintained even after bending 1500 times.

Polymer Donors with Temperature-Insensitive, Strong Aggregation Properties Enabling Additive-Free, Processing Temperature-Tolerant High-Performance All-Polymer Solar Cells

Soodeok Seo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of temperature-dependent aggregation behaviors in BDT-based polymer donors on the performance of all-polymer solar cells, and found that PBDB-Bz exhibits strong aggregation behavior at various temperatures and achieves high power conversion efficiency without solvent additives or thermal annealing. In contrast, PBDB-T requires these treatments for optimizing performance, highlighting the importance of developing temperature-insensitive polymers for producing reproducible, high-performance devices.

High-Efficiency All-Polymer Solar Cells with Poly-Small-Molecule Acceptors Having π-Extended Units with Broad Near-IR Absorption

Ning Su et al.

Summary: Two new poly-small-molecule acceptors, PYN-BDT and PYN-BDTF, with p-extended naphthalene rings, demonstrated broad optical cross-section macromolecular absorbers in all-polymer solar cells, leading to enhanced power conversion efficiencies. The blend morphology, GIWAXS, charge transport, exciton and carrier dynamics, and impedance-based analysis show that extending individual polymer acceptor blocks represents an efficient strategy to achieve high-performance cells with enhanced metrics.

Importance of Terminal Group Pairing of Polymer Donor and Small-Molecule Acceptor in Optimizing Blend Morphology and Voltage Loss of High-Performance Solar Cells

Geon-U Kim et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that pairing SMAs and P-Ds with similar terminal groups can enhance molecular compatibility and energetic interactions, leading to improved performance of organic solar cells by suppressing voltage loss and enhancing blend morphology. In particular, OSCs based on PBDT-F:C6OB-F blend achieved the highest PCE of 15.2%, outperforming other combinations significantly.
