PAMAM dendrimers with dual-conjugated vancomycin and Ag-nanoparticles do not induce bacterial resistance and kill vancomycin-resistant Staphylococci

Guimei Jiang et al.

Summary: The decreasing effective life-time of new antimicrobials before the appearance of resistant strains discourages commercialization, highlighting the importance of developing antimicrobials that prevent resistance induction. Heterofunctionalized dendrimers have shown the ability to kill resistant pathogens without inducing resistance in susceptible strains, providing a promising strategy for using existing antibiotics effectively. This approach may lead to better utilization of antibiotics and facilitate their clinical translation.

Sidi Liu et al.

Summary: A microfluidic device designed with nanowired Si surfaces coated with macrophage membranes has been shown to efficiently capture a broad spectrum of bacterial pathogens, including those most threatening to human health. The activated macrophage membrane coatings play a key role in stimulating nonspecific and specific bacterial capture, while maintaining fluidity for optimal performance. Such surfaces have great clinical relevance for early blood cleansing in septic patients when the causative bacterial strain is unknown.
