Lipid membranes exposed to dispersions of phytantriol and monoolein cubosomes: Langmuir monolayer and HeLa cell membrane studies

Elzbieta Jablonowska et al.

Summary: The interactions of liquid-crystalline nanoparticles based on lipid-like surfactants with selected model lipid membranes were compared. PT cubosomes showed stronger interactions with lipid layers compared to GMO-based nanoparticles, leading to fluidization of model membranes. The membrane disrupting effect of cubosomes increased with longer exposure times and higher carrier concentrations.

The Use of Alternative Strategies for Enhanced Nanoparticle Delivery to Solid Tumors

Mukaddes Izci et al.

Summary: Research has shown that despite efforts to utilize the EPR effect for enhanced delivery of nanomaterials to solid tumors, the results are still poor. Furthermore, some studies question the role of the EPR effect, suggesting that nanomaterials may enter tumors through active mechanisms rather than through endothelial gaps.

Targeted Micellar Phthalocyanine for Lymph Node Metastasis Homing and Photothermal Therapy in an Orthotopic Colorectal Tumor Model

Hai-Yi Feng et al.

Summary: Research suggests that nanoparticles smaller than 50 nm can penetrate directly into lymph node metastases, and by introducing targeting capabilities, their accumulation in the metastases can be enhanced for improved local treatment. Targeted small-sized nanoparticles have the potential to enable superior paradigms for dealing with lymph node metastases, as demonstrated by experiments showing extended survival in mice undergoing targeted photothermal therapy.
