Exfoliated Molybdenum Disulfide-Wrapped CdS Nanoparticles as a Nano-Heterojunction for Photo-Electrochemical Water Splitting

Sukdev Dolai et al.

Summary: A heterojunction photocathode, MoS2@CdS, was developed by wrapping CdS nanoparticles with MoS2 nanocrystals. The photocathode showed excellent photoelectrochemical performance with a maximum applied biased photoconversion efficiency of approximately 1.2% and a hydrogen production rate of around 72 µmol/h, demonstrating cyclic stability up to 7500 seconds.

Construction of BiVO4 nanosheets@WO3 arrays heterojunction photoanodes by versatile phase transformation strategy

Xin Su et al.

Summary: A versatile phase transformation strategy was proposed to synthesize novel BiVO4 nanosheets@WO3 nanorod and nanoplate arrays films. The prepared WO3/BiVa(4) heterojunction films exhibited excellent PEC activity in water splitting, with photocurrent densities reaching up to about 1.56 and 1.20 mA/cm(2) under visible light illumination without cocatalyst.

The significant role of the chemically bonded interfaces in BiVO4/ZnO heterostructures for photoelectrochemical water splitting

Jinglin Li et al.

Summary: Chemically bonded BiVO4/ZnO quantum dot heterostructures were fabricated using a simple solution dry-out method, forming chemically bonded interfaces (CBIs) that promote photoexcited electron transfer and serve as hole-blocking layers. The CBIs showed excellent performance in both UV and visible light regions, leading to significantly increased photocurrent density in BiVO4/ZnO QDs without a cocatalyst. Additionally, ethylene glycol was found to partially reduce Bi ions to elemental bismuth during the calcination process, contributing to improved water oxidation kinetics.

Plasma-induced moieties impart super-efficient activity to hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts

Chundong Wang et al.

Summary: Hydrogen, with its high combustion value and green nature, is widely seen as the next generation energy alternative to fossil fuels. The novel NiMoO4 catalyst on Ni foams showed superb HER activity in alkaline solution, approaching the theoretical limit. The NHx-NiMoO4 HER catalyst exhibited record high performance and potential for sea-water splitting, with NH3 moieties reorganizing to minimize energy barriers.
